Afghan Migrant Attaché Meets Traders in Peshawar to Discuss Asset Transfers

Niaz Mohammad Arif, the Afghan Migrant Attaché in Peshawar, Pakistan, met with several representatives of Afghan migrant traders to discuss the transfer of assets, their work conditions, and the consequences of forced expulsions.

The Taliban’s Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation announced that the meeting focused on suitable methods for transferring traders’ goods and investments, reviewing existing opportunities and challenges, and managing the current situation. This meeting takes place amid widespread concerns among Afghan migrants in Pakistan about forced returns and difficulties in transferring their assets.

According to the ministry, both parties emphasized facilitating the asset transfer processes, resolving administrative obstacles, and coordinating between relevant institutions. They also stressed the necessity of establishing a clear mechanism to prevent the loss of migrant traders’ investments.

Mr. Arif assured participants of customs exemptions for traders’ goods and stated that ensuring safe and orderly asset transfers is among their top priorities. However, migrant traders have consistently called for swift and practical measures to avoid potential damages.

This meeting is part of ongoing efforts to address the challenges faced by Afghan migrant traders and support them in the process of repatriation and asset transfer. Given recent developments, practical and accountable measures by the Taliban administration and relevant bodies are deemed necessary.
