FAO Warns of Increased Flash Flood Risk Amid Ongoing Heavy Rains in Afghanistan

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) has announced that extensive rainfall will continue across various parts of Afghanistan, raising the likelihood of flash floods. On Monday, March 30, the organization emphasized that the recent wave of rains could put some areas at risk of flooding.

According to FAO forecasts, rainfall has persisted for the fourth consecutive week and is expected to continue from March 30 to April 5. The highest amounts of rain are predicted in the central, eastern, and southeastern provinces of the country.

The agency stated that the recent precipitation has significantly improved soil moisture in many areas, which is crucial for farmers and agricultural activities.

FAO added that ongoing rainfall can support agricultural sectors and positively affect crop growth. However, the increased risk of sudden floods highlights the need for heightened preparedness in vulnerable regions.
