Amnesty International Urges Taliban to Reopen Education for Women and Girls in Afghanistan

Amnesty International has stated that with the start of the new academic year in Afghanistan, girls above the sixth grade and female university students are still barred from attending school and continuing their education. The organization said that educational restrictions on girls continue unchanged. Amnesty International has called on the Taliban administration to promptly facilitate the return of girls to schools and universities. The organization emphasized that the right to education is a fundamental human right, and the systematic deprivation of girls from education constitutes a clear violation of this right. Since the Taliban’s return to power in Afghanistan, extensive restrictions have been imposed on the education of girls and women. Currently, girls are only allowed to study up to the end of sixth grade, while the doors of secondary schools, high schools, and universities remain closed to them. International human rights bodies have repeatedly warned that the continuation of this situation will have long-term social and economic consequences for the country. Despite these warnings, the Taliban administration has yet to take any practical steps to lift these restrictions, and the policy of educational deprivation of girls remains in place.
