Water Dam Constructed in Nawzad, Helmand to Combat Drought

The Taliban’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum has announced the construction of a water dam in Nawzad district, Helmand province, to address the drought crisis. According to the minister, the project is funded by local traders, with technical support provided by government agencies.

The Taliban official stated that the initiative aims to manage water resources and reduce the impact of water scarcity in the affected areas. Nawzad district, located in northern Helmand, has faced consecutive droughts in recent years, leading to a significant decline in both surface and groundwater levels.

Local residents have repeatedly complained about water shortages affecting agriculture and livestock, which has severely impacted the livelihoods of many families. However, further details regarding the project’s start date, total cost, and estimated completion time have not yet been disclosed.

Water management experts emphasize that the success of such projects depends on transparency, effective oversight, and long-term planning to sustainably meet the needs of people living in drought-prone areas.
