Dried Fruit Traders in Uruzgan Demand Access to Global Markets

Several dried fruit traders in Uruzgan province say that despite increased harvests this year, the lack of domestic and international markets has led to a significant drop in their product prices.
According to these traders, this year’s dried fruit harvest in the province has been satisfactory with a larger quantity offered in the market; however, due to a shortage of customers and absence of access to global markets, they have been unable to sell their products at reasonable prices.
They emphasize that if conditions for export and access to international markets are provided, it would not only prevent financial losses but also improve the local economy and the living standards of farmers.
Uruzgan is one of Afghanistan’s provinces known for agricultural production, and dried fruit is considered one of the country’s important export items. However, the lack of a systematic marketing and export plan in recent years has created serious challenges for producers and traders—an issue that the Taliban administration is expected to address with practical and effective measures.
