The Taliban administration has announced that work is ongoing on a 31.6-kilometer road connecting districts in Maidan Wardak province to the center of Logar province. The project, assigned to two construction companies, begins in the Dar-e-Tangi and Qala Amir areas of Maidan Wardak and passes through Dughabad, Sholak, and Babus before reaching the city of Pul-e Alam.
The construction is divided into two sections: the first is 17.4 kilometers and the second 14.2 kilometers. The project includes building 120 culvert foundations, numerous retaining walls, and one large bridge. According to published information, only 24 culvert foundations have been completed so far, with work on the remaining structures still ongoing.
The Taliban administration claims that the project has created employment opportunities for some local residents. They also state that upon completion, the road will facilitate citizen mobility and the transport of agricultural products.
Despite these claims, serious questions remain about the project’s quality, contract transparency, and prioritization of community needs. In the absence of independent evaluations and credible oversight bodies, concerns over resource misuse and potential showcase projects by the Taliban persist.
