Pakistan to Halt Attacks in Afghanistan Until March 23 Amid Eid al-Fitr Observance

Attaullah Tarar, Pakistan’s Minister of Information and Broadcasting, announced that the country will temporarily suspend its attacks against what it calls ‘terrorists and their supporting infrastructures in Afghanistan’ in observance of Eid al-Fitr.
On Wednesday evening (March 17), he stated that this decision was made unilaterally and following requests from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Turkey. According to him, the ceasefire began at midnight tonight and will continue until midnight on March 23.
In recent months, Pakistani officials have repeatedly expressed concern about the presence of armed groups across the Durand Line, claiming that these groups operate from Afghan territory against Pakistan. The Taliban administration has consistently rejected these allegations, stating it does not permit the use of Afghan territory against any country.
Nevertheless, the continuation of cross-border attacks and security tensions between the two sides has once again raised questions about the extent of the Taliban administration’s control over border areas and how security threats in these regions are managed.
