Taliban Agriculture Ministry Calls for Accelerated Land Acquisition for TAPI Project

The Taliban’s Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock has announced that accelerating the land acquisition process for the TAPI pipeline project in Afghanistan was the focus of its recent meeting with Turkmenistan officials. The meeting emphasized speeding up the land acquisition and setting fair prices for the lands included in the project.

According to the ministry’s newsletter, Murad Amanov, head of the TAPI project, met with Mullah Attaullah Omari, the Taliban’s Minister of Agriculture, and Khwaja Avazov, the Turkmenistan ambassador, to provide updates on the project’s practical progress. He called for the land acquisition process and price determination to proceed more quickly in accordance with the framework agreement among the four countries involved in the project.

The Taliban’s Minister of Agriculture described the implementation of the TAPI project as important for Afghanistan and said that land pricing would be conducted based on prevailing principles and laws. He stated that work on the land price draft is ongoing to establish clear and fair prices for lands with private, personal, and emirate ownership.

The TAPI project is one of the major regional initiatives related to gas transportation; it aims to transport Turkmenistan’s gas through Afghanistan to Pakistan and India. The pipeline route passes through several Afghan provinces, and the Ministry of Agriculture is technically responsible for assessing, registering, and acquiring the lands along the route.
