China Expresses Concern at UN Over Afghanistan-Pakistan Tensions Along Durand Line

China’s permanent representative to the United Nations voiced concern during the Security Council meeting on Afghanistan over recent clashes between Afghanistan and Pakistan along the disputed Durand Line. He urged both sides to exercise restraint to prevent escalating tensions, emphasizing that the continuation of such conflict could threaten regional stability.
Fu Cong, China’s representative, stated at the meeting that Beijing is ready to play a constructive role in de-escalating tensions between Kabul and Islamabad. According to him, dialogue and regional cooperation are the only ways to prevent the spread of instability along the shared borders.
The Chinese envoy also called on the Taliban administration to thoroughly investigate the attack on a hotel linked to Chinese nationals in Kabul and hold the perpetrators accountable. This appeal comes amid growing concerns over the security of investments and the safety of foreign nationals in Afghanistan.
He further stressed that the Taliban must engage in practical cooperation with neighboring countries to eliminate terrorist threats and take concrete steps towards ensuring regional security and stability. Over time, the international community continues to urge the Taliban government to fulfill its responsibilities regarding internal security and regional commitments in a clear and measurable manner.
