OCHA: Afghan Women Continue Humanitarian Aid Despite Taliban Restrictions

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has stated that Afghan women remain at the forefront of delivering aid to those in need despite increasing restrictions imposed by the Taliban administration.
On Sunday, March 7th, coinciding with International Women’s Solidarity Day, OCHA released a message emphasizing the necessity of supporting female humanitarian workers. The agency noted that ongoing relief efforts face significant challenges without the participation of women.
OCHA’s statement read: “Without justice for Afghan women and girls, there will be no true justice.” The organization highlighted the essential role women play in delivering aid to families, especially in remote and vulnerable areas.
On the same day, several aid organizations active in Afghanistan called for the repeal of restrictions placed on women’s work and activities by the Taliban administration. They warned that continuing these limitations not only violates fundamental women’s rights but also disrupts the provision of vital services to millions of needy residents.
Since the Taliban’s return to power, extensive restrictions have been imposed on women’s education, work, and social participation—measures that have drawn widespread domestic and international criticism and continue to be condemned by human rights organizations.
