Chatham House Calls Trump’s Attack on Iran a ‘High-Stakes Political Gamble’

Chatham House, a respected British think tank, has stated that U.S. President Donald Trump’s decision to initiate a war against Iran constitutes a “high-stakes political gamble” with far-reaching domestic consequences for America.
In its latest assessment, Chatham House writes that this decision, contrary to Trump’s prior stance on ending prolonged wars, signals a shift toward a more aggressive policy. The report indicates that this approach aims to exert maximum pressure and even to alter the political structure within Iran.
According to the author of the analysis, reactions within the United States have been divided. Findings presented in the report show that only 27 percent of American citizens support these attacks. The Democratic Party has described the move as a “selective” and unnecessary war, while significant disagreements persist among Republicans.
Chatham House added that a portion of Trump’s traditional base, including the so-called “MAGA” movement, does not align with this decision. Some figures close to this faction, such as Tucker Carlson, have openly opposed the attacks; according to the think tank, this signals a rift among supporters of the U.S. president.
