173 Migrant Families Return to Afghanistan via Four Border Crossings

Media outlets under Taliban administration reported that on Thursday, March 4, a total of 173 migrant families returned to Afghanistan from Iran and Pakistan. According to Bakhtar news agency, these families entered the country through various border routes.
The report states that 119 families crossed through the Silk Bridge in Nimroz province, 15 families through the Islam Qala border crossing in Herat, one family from Torkham in Nangarhar, and 38 families from Spin Boldak in Kandahar returned to the country. These border crossings are among the main routes for migrant movement between Afghanistan and neighboring countries.
Meanwhile, the United Nations has announced that only 11 percent of returnees are employed, raising concerns about their livelihoods and access to job opportunities. Given the widespread economic crisis and unemployment in the country, reintegrating these families into society is considered a serious challenge.
Two days earlier, it was also reported that more than one thousand families had returned to Afghanistan. The UN stated that in 2025, approximately 2.8 million Afghan migrants have returned from Iran and Pakistan.
Erafat Jamal, the International Organization for Migration representative in Afghanistan, previously said at a press conference that since October 2023, 5.4 million people have returned to Afghanistan, most of whom came from Pakistan and Iran. With the increasing trend of returns, there is a growing need for transparent and responsive planning by the Taliban administration to address the situation of returnees.
