Vatican Warns of Consequences of US and Israeli Attack on Iran

The Vatican’s Foreign Minister has warned about the consequences of any attack by the United States and Israel on Iran, stating that such actions could undermine the foundations of international law and expose the world to widespread instability.

Cardinal Pietro Parolin, in an interview with the Vatican News portal, said that in the current situation, “the law of power has replaced the power of law.” He emphasized that if countries are recognized the right to initiate a “preemptive war,” the entire international system would face a serious threat.

According to Parolin, a declaration of war by the US and Israel against Iran would reinforce a process that weakens accepted principles of international law, an issue he considers “very concerning” that could extend tensions beyond a regional conflict.

The Vatican Foreign Minister’s stance is notable because officials of this religious institution usually avoid overt and direct criticism of countries’ military policies. His recent remarks are described as one of the clearest official Vatican responses to a military conflict in recent years.
