Putin Urges Containment of Threats to Russian Interests Amid Rising Security Concerns

Vladimir Putin, President of Russia, stated in a meeting with staff and directors of the Federal Security Service (FSB) that individuals who threaten Russia’s national interests must be contained. He referred to the international situation, noting that the global environment has become challenging and that Moscow must remain on high alert against threats.

Putin also addressed the war in Ukraine, emphasizing that Russia’s special military operation must continue with focus. He added that attempts are underway to impose a “strategic defeat” on Russia on the battlefield, but according to him, these efforts have so far yielded no results.

The Russian president further reported an increase in terrorist threats, attacks on infrastructure, and attempts to assassinate government officials. He claimed that some of these actions in recent years have been directed by Ukrainian intelligence, and that attacks on Russian civilian facilities and infrastructure have increased.

Putin alleged that threats target Russian energy pipelines, including “TurkStream” and “Blue Stream,” and claimed there is intelligence on plans for possible explosions of these pipelines. These two pipelines represent key routes for transporting Russian gas abroad.

He stressed that Moscow must protect its industrial facilities, technology, and scientific centers and identify infiltrators. According to him, economic security is a priority for Russia.

Putin also referred to a security incident at Moscow’s Savyolovsky railway station, stating that it appears the perpetrator was recruited via the internet and was remotely provided with explosives, which, as he said, were subsequently detonated remotely.
