UNICEF Warns 270,000 Children at Risk from Life-Threatening Cold in Afghanistan

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has announced that amid the ongoing winter cold in Daikundi province, it has distributed winter aid, including warm clothing, to vulnerable children and families.

On Tuesday, February 23rd, UNICEF stated on its X (formerly Twitter) page that the severe cold has made winter a difficult season for many children in Afghanistan and a struggle for survival for some.

According to the released information, UNICEF staff, in coordination with implementing partners, have distributed warm clothes and other essential winter items among vulnerable families in Daikundi province.

Earlier, at the start of the current winter, UNICEF had warned that with ongoing displacement and temperatures dropping below zero, approximately 270,000 children across the country face life-threatening severe cold. This situation underscores the urgent need for humanitarian assistance.
