Trump Condemns Supreme Court Ruling on Tariffs

Donald Trump, President of the United States, strongly criticized the Supreme Court after it ruled that a significant part of his tariff policies were illegal. In a message posted on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump condemned the judicial body in strong terms.

Responding to the ruling, Trump wrote that the Supreme Court’s decision had given him “more power and authority.” At the same time, he described the ruling as “ridiculous” and “divisive,” claiming that the court had prevented the collection of fees from countries that, according to him, had benefited from trade with the U.S. for years.

The president also emphasized that, based on his interpretation of the ruling, other tariffs remain in place and can be enforced with stronger legal backing. He accused the Supreme Court of acting in favor of countries like China and added that he believes this trend will harm America’s future.

Last Friday, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled by a six-to-three vote that the president’s use of emergency powers to impose broad tariffs on imports does not comply with federal law. This ruling represents one of the most significant legal challenges to the Trump administration’s economic policies and could have wide-ranging political and economic consequences.

The case concerns a set of tariffs Trump dubbed the “Freedom Day.” These tariffs were imposed on imports from several U.S. trade partners, including China, Mexico, Canada, India, and Brazil.

Under this policy, some tariffs were raised to as high as 50 percent, and in the case of China, even up to 145 percent. The White House stated that the aim of this action was to address what it called a “chronic trade deficit” and an emergency in foreign trade.
