Floods in Congo Displace Over 2,500 Families Amid Heavy Rainfall

At least 2,533 families have been displaced after floods caused by the overflow of two rivers in central and eastern Republic of Congo. The flooding occurred following heavy rains in the Maniema province.
Jean Claude Ngoy, head of the civil society in the Ponya region, stated that rising water levels of the Congo and Ulindi rivers in recent days led to floods sweeping through the villages of Kasera, Tubila, and Ulindi, forcing hundreds of residents to flee their homes.
According to him, the homes of thousands of families have been submerged, causing extensive damage. Ngoy has called on provincial and national authorities, as well as humanitarian organizations and aid workers, to take immediate action to assist those affected.
In addition to residential homes, the floods have destroyed several public facilities, including schools, health centers, and drinking water sources. The Republic of Congo has repeatedly experienced seasonal floods in recent years, resulting in significant human and financial losses.
