UN Launches 2026 Afghanistan Humanitarian Aid Plan to Support 21.9 Million People

The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has announced the launch of the “Afghanistan Humanitarian Needs and Response Plan” for 2026. According to this plan, 21.9 million people in Afghanistan will require humanitarian assistance in the current year.

In its latest report, OCHA stated that $1.71 billion has been requested to address the situation, aiming to assist 17.5 million of those in need. The aid will cover various sectors, including food security, health, shelter, and essential services.

Afghanistan continues to face a severe humanitarian crisis, exacerbated by years of conflict, widespread poverty, natural disasters, and restrictions imposed by the Taliban administration on different segments of society. Aid organizations have repeatedly warned that ongoing restrictions, especially concerning women’s work and education, have seriously hindered aid distribution efforts.

The United Nations stressed that adequate funding and unhindered access to affected areas are vital to preventing further deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan. Without the necessary financial resources, millions of residents face increased risks of hunger, disease, and homelessness.
