Taliban Administration Clears 97 Kilometers of TAPI Pipeline Route in Afghanistan

The spokesperson for the Taliban’s Ministry of Mines and Petroleum announced that 97 kilometers of the TAPI gas pipeline route within Afghanistan have been cleared, with new pipes transported to the area. According to him, the installation of the pipes will begin in the coming days.
Homayoun Afghan, in an interview with a domestic media outlet, stated that currently about 500 meters of gas pipeline are being installed daily. He added that the construction of the 153-kilometer section of the project in Herat province will be completed by the end of 2026.
Earlier, the former president of Turkmenistan had also announced that the first phase of the TAPI project in Herat will be operational by the end of 2026.
The TAPI project is one of the major regional gas pipeline initiatives, transporting Turkmenistan’s gas through Afghanistan to Pakistan and India. Given the economic significance of this project for Afghanistan, it is expected that the Taliban administration will provide clearer details regarding the progress of the work, security arrangements along the route, and assurances of the country’s economic benefits. This project could play a significant role in creating job opportunities and increasing national revenues.
