Israeli General Warns of Military Collapse and Deep Social Crisis

A retired Israeli army major general has dismissed Tel Aviv officials’ claims of a “complete victory” over Hezbollah, warning instead of the army’s collapse and a deep social crisis in the country.
Ishak Brik, former commissioner for handling complaints from Israeli soldiers, stated that claims of a total victory over Hezbollah and Iran are more about deceiving public opinion than reflecting battlefield realities. According to him, while officials talk about success, the Israeli army is facing serious structural and morale challenges.
The newspaper Maariv, which published these remarks, quoted Brik saying that Israel is in a state of strategic stagnation, while opposing forces are rebuilding and strengthening their capabilities. He added that the lack of careful policymaking by political and military leaders has further complicated the situation.
Brik also accused military, intelligence, and political leaders of evading accountability instead of accepting responsibility for failures. He believes this approach has weakened public trust and increased internal divisions.
The former general mentioned Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, stating that Netanyahu prioritizes the survival of his political coalition over security priorities. Brik warned that continuing this trend could lead Israel toward international isolation, security erosion, and social disintegration.
He said that if the current situation persists, the events of October 7 may only be a prelude to a broader, multi-front confrontation—a scenario which, according to the former official, could pose a serious threat to Israel’s stability and future.
