525 Firearms Discovered in Torkham Border Crossing; Two Arrested

Local authorities in Nangarhar have announced the discovery and seizure of 525 firearms at the Torkham border crossing. According to officials, these weapons were found in a vehicle carrying Afghan migrants entering the country from Pakistan.
Maulvi Ghulam al-Rahman Haidari, the Deputy Governor for the Taliban administration in Nangarhar, stated that the shipment was uncovered by security forces. Following the seizure, one Afghan citizen and one Pakistani citizen were arrested in connection with the case.
Torkham is one of the most important border crossings between Afghanistan and Pakistan in the eastern region, consistently experiencing heavy movement of travelers and migrants. The discovery of such shipments once again highlights concerns regarding border control and prevention of weapons smuggling.
Despite the Taliban administration’s emphasis on ensuring security and curbing smuggling, similar incidents indicate that serious challenges remain in managing and supervising border crossings. This situation calls for greater transparency and accountability from the authorities.
