Four Infrastructure Projects Completed at Aqina Port; Construction of New Hangar Begins

Local and technical officials have announced the completion and commissioning of four infrastructure projects at the Aqina commercial port in Faryab province, costing over 134 million Afghanis. Simultaneously, construction of a new hangar valued at 21 million Afghanis has also commenced. According to the officials, the purpose of these projects is to facilitate customs procedures and improve services for traders.

Engineer Najibullah Ibrahimy, a customs projects expert from the Ministry of Finance under the Taliban administration, stated that the completed projects include the construction of a 2.7-kilometer perimeter wall around Aqina customs with eight towers, creation of a parking area covering 5.5 jeribs of land, construction of an archive building with a capacity to store 25,000 files, building three residential houses for the customs chief and deputies, and the procurement of four vehicles including a fire truck, loader, tanker, and dump truck.

He further mentioned that work has started on building a new hangar within the port area, estimated to cost 21 million Afghanis. Officials have said the purpose of this hangar is to improve the management of commercial goods and to expedite the inspection and storage processes.

Aqina port is located in Khanchargh district of Faryab province, bordering Turkmenistan, and is considered one of the major trade gateways in northern Afghanistan. Officials report that approximately 350 trucks carrying commercial goods pass through this port daily.

Mullah Abdul Wahid Fazli, the Taliban-appointed governor of Faryab, stated during the inauguration ceremony that the completion of these projects will provide greater facilities at the Aqina customs. However, some traders have consistently emphasized that establishing sustainable facilitation at customs requires transparency in management, reduction of bureaucracy, and prevention of unnecessary obstacles in the clearance process—issues that officials are expected to seriously address alongside infrastructure development.
