Afghanistan’s Vice and Virtue Ministry Urges Strict Law Enforcement in Kabul

The Minister of the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice and Complaints Office of the Taliban has called on the morality police in Kabul city and its districts to show greater seriousness in enforcing the law and coordinating among themselves. He made these remarks during a meeting with officials of the department in Kabul.
Mohammad Khalid Hanafi, the minister of this department, said at the event that the promotion of virtue and prevention of vice is a characteristic of the “Islamic system,” and without it, no system can be considered Islamic. He emphasized the full implementation of the department’s guidelines.
Since the Taliban’s return to power, the Promotion of Virtue office has expanded its activities across various areas, with its morality enforcers present in different social sectors. However, the department’s operations have consistently faced widespread criticism from citizens and human rights organizations.
Critics argue that the strict enforcement of certain regulations, especially those related to individual freedoms and women’s rights, has led to significant restrictions on the daily lives of people. Despite these concerns, the Taliban administration has not announced any changes in the institution’s approach so far.
