Netanyahu Expresses Surprise at Level of UAE-Israel Cooperation

Benjamin Netanyahu, the Prime Minister of Israel, stated that he is “surprised” by the extent of cooperation between the United Arab Emirates and Tel Aviv. These remarks were made during his meeting with U.S. Senator Lindsey Graham.

According to the Arabic 21 media outlet, citing Mehr News Agency, Graham told reporters after the meeting that Netanyahu expressed gratitude for the role of Mohamed bin Zayed, the UAE President. Graham said Netanyahu emphasized that the UAE President has done “everything that has been asked of him and even more.”

The Israeli Prime Minister also described the UAE as a “reliable partner in difficult times” for Israel. These comments come amid the expanding relationship between the two sides in recent years.

The United Arab Emirates and Bahrain signed normalization agreements with Israel in 2020 in a ceremony attended by then U.S. President Donald Trump; the agreement became known as the “Abraham Accords” and paved the way for establishing official diplomatic relations between these countries.
