Maryam Nawaz Criticizes Khyber Pakhtunkhwa for Lagging Behind in Technology and Development

Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Chief Minister of Pakistan’s Punjab province, stated that the residents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) have yet to benefit from technological advancements and development programs. According to her, the provincial government in KP has not taken effective practical steps towards modernization and development.

She made these remarks during a meeting at the University of Gujrat, adding that extensive programs such as “Hunhar” scholarships, laptop distribution, and technical training have been provided for students in Punjab. She noted that such facilities have not been widely accessible in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Maryam Nawaz indirectly referred to the several years of governance by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) party in KP, saying that instead of practical progress, there were mostly awareness slogans issued. She did not provide further details on this matter.

Conversely, a number of politicians and residents of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa believe that ongoing insecurity and conflicts in the province and tribal areas have complicated normal life, work opportunities, and investment prospects. They say this situation has been the main obstacle to the development and welfare of the people.

The Punjab Chief Minister also emphasized that the blocking of highways and protests cause the greatest damage to KP’s economy. These protests are in support of Imran Khan, Pakistan’s former Prime Minister, who is currently in prison.
