Deep Rift Between US and Europe Exposed at Munich Security Conference

The American publication Politico has reported that the Munich Security Conference revealed clear signs of a growing divide between the United States and European countries; a rift that, according to the media outlet, casts uncertainty over the future of transatlantic relations. The report emphasized that although the NATO alliance continues to function, the traditional framework that has kept the US and Europe united for decades has suffered serious erosion.

According to Politico, no clear consensus was reached during the conference on how to redefine or develop relations amid current tense circumstances. This indicates that Western allies do not share unified views when facing global security and political developments.

Ivica Šilina, Prime Minister of Latvia, told the newspaper that the two sides can no longer interact as they used to. An unnamed European executive also stated that restoring trust lost over the past year could take an entire generation.

Wolfgang Ischinger, chairman of the Munich Security Conference, referring to the declining trust of European countries in the United States, said rebuilding this trust would not be an easy task. The Munich Security Conference was held from February 13 to 15 in Munich, the capital of Bavaria, Germany.
