Trump Comments on Iraq’s Prime Minister Selection, Emphasizes US Involvement

Donald Trump, President of the United States, has once again commented on the issue of selecting Iraq’s prime minister, stating that Washington is closely monitoring developments on the matter. He said that the US has “ideas for engagement” regarding this scenario.

Without providing further details, Trump added that ultimately “everyone needs the US.” These remarks come as the appointment of the prime minister in Iraq remains a sensitive issue closely tied to the country’s internal political structure.

The US president had previously stated that Nouri al-Maliki should not be allowed to become Iraq’s prime minister again; a stance viewed by some Iraqi political factions as interference in the country’s internal affairs.

Following these comments, several Iraqi political circles reacted. Iraq’s Coordination Framework coalition emphasized that the selection of the prime minister is an internal matter and that no external party should interfere. The coalition has repeatedly stressed Iraq’s national sovereignty in political decision-making.
