Yemeni Official Calls UN Report a ‘Cover-Up’ of the War

Yemen’s Deputy Foreign Minister has described the latest UN Special Envoy’s report to the Security Council as a move to perpetuate the war and exploit the country’s humanitarian crisis. Abdulwahid Aburas stated that instead of reflecting the on-the-ground realities, the report has become a tool for continuing the conflict.

In an interview with the official Saba News Agency, Aburas called Hans Grundberg’s statements “misleading” and added that what the UN and the international community present does not provide an accurate picture of Yemen’s situation. According to him, this approach has effectively aided the continuation of the clashes.

Referring to Saudi Arabia’s role in Yemen’s developments, Aburas emphasized that foreign intervention is the main cause of the current crisis. He alleged that Riyadh still has a direct role in the developments of the southern and eastern governorates and supports aligned groups.

The Yemeni official also pointed to the formation and swearing-in of an institution he called the “mercenary government” in Riyadh as an indicator of Saudi Arabia’s influence over affiliated factions. He believes this move reflects the ongoing Saudi role in political structures related to the Yemen crisis.

In another part of his remarks, the Deputy Foreign Minister said the recently agreed roadmap under UN supervision is essentially the result of bilateral talks between Sanaa and Riyadh, with no other party involved in its formation.

He also held the United States responsible for continuing Saudi military presence in parts of Yemen and warned that Washington’s pressures to maintain the status quo will have consequences for Saudi Arabia and its allies. Aburas concluded by describing the UN representative’s comments on Yemen’s judicial process as “interference in internal affairs” and stressed that such positions could lead to negative repercussions.
