Pakhtunkhwa Party Leader Haqqani Condemns Afghan Refugees’ Expulsion from Pakistan as ‘Inhumane’

Mahmood Khan Haqqani, leader of the Awami National Party of Pakhtunkhwa, has strongly criticized the current treatment of Afghan refugees in Pakistan, calling it contrary to previous parliamentary resolutions and humanitarian values. He stated that the manner of their expulsion and the pressure exerted on these refugees contradicts earlier decisions made at the official level.
According to Haqqani, during Nawaz Sharif’s premiership, a committee led by Mushahid Hussain and Wasim Sajjad unanimously recommended granting citizenship to children born in Pakistan. He emphasized that this proposal was made within the framework of an official decision and political consensus.
The Awami National Party leader questioned why those decisions are being ignored today and added, “With the level of disrespect and humiliation with which Afghans are being expelled from the country, is this treatment compatible with human standards?”
In recent months, the issue of the return and expulsion of Afghan refugees from Pakistan has become one of the most controversial debates in the country. Haqqani’s remarks come amid ongoing concerns about the legal and humanitarian situation of these refugees.
