Shia Scholars in Bamyan Demand Fair Share in Taliban Administration

A group of Shia religious scholars, tribal elders, and civil activists in Bamyan province held a joint meeting with local Taliban officials, expressing support for the Taliban administration while calling for practical attention to the demands of the Shia community. They emphasized expanding cooperation between the people and the government and requested a fair share for Shias in the administrative structure and national projects.

The participants urged the Taliban administration to prioritize Shia-populated areas in the implementation of major national projects. They also stressed that Shia scientific and specialized personnel should receive a fair portion within the government apparatus and that their capacities be utilized to advance governance.

Seyed Nasrullah Waizi, head of the Bamyan Scholars Council, stated at the meeting that kindness, goodwill, and compassion are fundamental rights of the people that rulers must uphold. He added that fair and responsible conduct toward citizens is the most basic principle of governance.

Gul Haidar Shafaq, the governor of Bamyan, said the Taliban administration is committed to resolving the people’s problems and will not allow the spread of ethnic, religious, or linguistic prejudices. He emphasized that discrimination has no place within the Taliban framework.

However, the explicit demands for political participation, employment of Shia specialists in government offices, respect for religious rights, and allocation of national revenues and Bamyan mine income to developmental projects indicate that some citizens still harbor concerns about the practical realization of equality and fair participation. It is expected that the Taliban administration will take clear and measurable steps to address these requests.
