Explosion at Chinese Biotechnology Company Kills Eight

Chinese state media have reported that an explosion at a small biotechnology firm in northern China has claimed eight lives. The incident occurred early Saturday morning in Shuoyang city, Shanxi province. According to the official Xinhua News Agency, following the blast, the legal representative of Jiapeng Biotechnology Company was detained by authorities, and a special investigative team has been dispatched to the scene to determine the cause and circumstances of the accident. Xinhua added that the company is located in a mountainous area, and dark yellow smoke rose from the site after the explosion. No further details regarding the extent of the damage or the condition of the area have been released. The exact cause of the explosion remains unclear, and Chinese officials stated that investigations are ongoing. Jiapeng Biotechnology Company was established in June 2025 and engages in research related to animal feed, coal products, and building materials.
