679 Afghan Migrant Families Return in One Day Amid Growing Concerns

According to reports from media outlets affiliated with the Taliban administration, 679 Afghan migrant families entered the country through various border crossings in a single day. This figure was released on Friday, 17th Dalw, by the Bakhtar news agency.
The report specifies that 516 families returned through the Torkham crossing in Nangarhar, 129 families via Spin Boldak in Kandahar, 22 families through Islam Qala in Herat, and 12 families from the Pul-e Abrisham crossing in Nimroz province. These crossings are among the main routes for Afghan migrants traveling back and forth.
Meanwhile, the United Nations has stated that only 11 percent of returnees have jobs, raising concerns about the living conditions and access these families have to employment opportunities and basic services.
Two days prior, reports indicated that nearly 300 migrant families had returned to the country. The UN estimates that a total of 2.8 million Afghan migrants will have returned from Iran and Pakistan to Afghanistan in 2025. This large-scale return, in the absence of clear planning and effective support from the Taliban administration, has created serious economic and social challenges for the returnees.
