Details of First Phase of Gaza Ceasefire Agreement Announced

According to Israeli media reports, a ceasefire agreement mediated by Egypt and supported by the United States will enter its implementation phase today, Thursday, October 9, at 12:00 local time. The agreement includes the release of prisoners and a halt to the hostilities in the Gaza Strip.
Agence France-Presse, citing a source within Hamas, reported that in the first phase of the agreement’s implementation, all living Israeli prisoners will be released without any formal ceremony. In return, over two thousand Palestinian detainees held in Israeli-administered prisons will be freed. Among them, around 250 have been sentenced to life imprisonment or other severe penalties, with some being residents of the Gaza Strip.
Under the terms of the agreement, the handover of prisoners’ bodies will be carried out gradually, while the release of Israeli prisoners will occur collectively and immediately.
The Israeli government’s security and political cabinet is scheduled to hold an initial meeting later today to review the agreement, with the final decision to be made at an official cabinet session.
This agreement is viewed as aligned with the peace proposal put forward by U.S. President Donald Trump, aimed at ending the war in Gaza and laying the groundwork for rebuilding the war-torn region.
Reports indicate that senior Israeli negotiators remain in the Egyptian city of Sharm El-Sheikh to finalize the list of Palestinian prisoners to be released. A member of the negotiation team stated that this list plays a key role in the final approval of the agreement.
Meanwhile, Israeli media quoting officials report that starting from Friday, Gaza Strip residents will be permitted to return to their homes.
