Distribution of Aid to Returnee Families Begins in Badghis Province

The distribution of food and cash assistance to returnee families in Badghis province has commenced. The program was launched in the provincial capital with the presence of Mawlawi Attaullah Omari, the Taliban’s Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation, and Livestock, along with several local officials.

According to released information, each of the 1,200 returnee families is to receive five sacks of wheat and 5,000 Afghanis in cash. It is reported that these aid packages are being distributed by a designated committee assigned to assist the families.

During the ceremony, the Taliban’s Agriculture Minister claimed that these programs are implemented under the direction of the administration’s leadership and aim to address the needs of returnees. However, no details were provided regarding the mechanism for identifying families, the selection criteria, or oversight of the distribution process.

Some returnee families benefiting from the aid expressed their satisfaction and called for the continuation of such programs. Meanwhile, civil society organizations and local residents consistently emphasize that humanitarian assistance should be distributed transparently, fairly, and sustainably to adequately meet the broad needs of returnees.
