UN Secretary-General Welcomes Initial Ceasefire Agreement Between Hamas and Israel

Antonio Guterres, the United Nations Secretary-General, welcomed the preliminary ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel, based on a proposal put forward by Donald Trump, and called for full adherence by all parties to its terms.
He emphasized that the war must end forever and stressed the need to guarantee immediate, unhindered, and effective access to humanitarian aid and essential commercial goods to the Gaza Strip.
Guterres expressed hope that this agreement would lay the groundwork for a credible process aimed at ending the occupation, recognizing the Palestinian people’s right to self-determination, and achieving a two-state solution. According to him, this solution could enable peaceful and secure living conditions for both Palestinians and Israelis.
The UN chief praised the efforts of the United States, Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey in facilitating this agreement and warned that “the situation has never been more sensitive.”
