Officials from Kandahar’s Agricultural Department have announced that during the current solar year, national traders have exported nearly 23,000 tons of pomegranates produced in the province to international markets, a figure that highlights Kandahar’s prominent position in agricultural exports.

According to these officials, the quality of Kandahar pomegranates has significantly improved compared to previous years, while simultaneously, pests and plant diseases have been largely controlled. This improvement has created increased demand in foreign markets.

Based on provided information, Kandahar pomegranates in the current year have been exported to Pakistan, India, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Uzbekistan, Russia, Kazakhstan, the United Arab Emirates, and Qatar; countries considered major consumers of this product.

Additionally, agricultural authorities state that in the solar year 1404, around 15,000 hectares of land in Kandahar were dedicated to pomegranate orchards, yielding nearly 274,000 tons of pomegranates.

Kandahar is regarded as one of the leading provinces in pomegranate production in the country, with its pomegranates valued in domestic and international markets due to their high quality, desirable taste, and long shelf life.

Local officials express hope that with further improvements in agricultural services, effective prevention of plant diseases, and the development of export routes, the volume of Kandahar’s pomegranate exports will increase in the coming years.
