US Senate Approves Bill to Restrict Aid to Afghanistan Under Taliban Rule

The United States Senate Foreign Relations Committee has approved a bill that imposes new restrictions on US assistance to Afghanistan under the current Taliban administration.
According to released information, several US senators have simultaneously called for the suspension of $631 million allocated for Afghanistan’s reconstruction. These lawmakers argue that continuing aid under the current conditions, without guarantees of transparency and effective oversight, is unjustifiable.
Since the political changes of 2021, Afghanistan has faced a severe economic and humanitarian crisis, with millions of its residents depending on humanitarian aid. However, concerns about how financial resources are managed and preventing misuse of aid remain a central issue in deliberations within US decision-making bodies.
In response to this decision, the Taliban administration stated that it has not received any direct assistance from the United States and claimed there is no need for such aid. Critics, however, emphasize that limiting international aid will most impact ordinary people’s lives, holding the ruling administration’s policies and actions primarily responsible for the current situation.
