18 Arrested for Drug Trafficking in Farza District, Kabul

The police command of Farza district in Kabul province announced that during a ten-day operation, 18 individuals were arrested on charges of drug trafficking and possession of narcotic tablets, with a significant amount of drugs seized from them. According to security officials in the district, more than 32,000 Zegp tablets, over 13,000 tablets known as “Ka,” and more than 23 kilograms of hashish were discovered and confiscated during the operation. Additionally, seven vehicles used for transporting drugs between provinces were seized by security forces. Iqbal Ahmad Intiqam, the police commander of Farza district, emphasized the importance of local residents’ cooperation in these arrests, noting that people report any suspicious activities to security forces. He added that without public cooperation, identifying such networks would be difficult. Security officials claim that the cultivation and production of narcotics in the district have nearly ceased, but they report that a large portion of industrial drugs is trafficked into Afghanistan from neighboring countries. This indicates ongoing cross-border challenges in the fight against drug trafficking. The Farza police commander stated that the detainees confessed during investigations that they imported the drugs from abroad. He insisted that security forces are standing firm against this issue, although critics argue that sustainable prevention requires greater transparency, accountability, and comprehensive national and regional strategies. Meanwhile, Khalid, the district’s control chief, said these individuals used vehicles to transport drugs from one province to another. Some detainees also admitted to prior drug use and said economic hardships led them to join trafficking networks. One detainee stated that after some time of drug use, he was offered a paid job distributing narcotics. Another claimed that the drugs were brought from Pakistan to Jalalabad and then transported to Kabul and other provinces.
