Kabul Accelerates Water Supply Project to Address Drinking Water Shortages

In response to the ongoing shortage of drinking water in Kabul city, the Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Department under Taliban administration has announced the acceleration of the remaining work on the mid-term water supply project. This initiative aims to meet the immediate needs of Kabul residents.

Mawlawi Ghulam al-Rahman Kazim, the executive head of the department, stated that the water will be supplied from the Shiokio area, and operational efforts to connect it to the city’s network are continuing with increased urgency. He added that the current focus is on completing parts that had previously remained unfinished.

In recent years, Kabul residents have repeatedly complained about the shortage of clean drinking water and its uneven distribution—a problem that worsens daily life, especially during the hot seasons. Although the Taliban administration highlights progress in the project, transparency regarding the timeline and accountability for past delays remain key public demands.
