Elon Musk Condemns Global Silence on Slavery in Afghanistan

Elon Musk, the well-known billionaire and CEO of SpaceX, on Tuesday, January 26, openly criticized the international community’s silence on the human rights situation in Afghanistan by resharing a post on social media.
In the text reshared by Musk, it was claimed that the practice of “slavery” has reemerged in Afghanistan; a custom under which children are used as sexual slaves or servants. These allegations highlight serious concerns about the safety and human dignity of children in areas under Taliban control.
Musk questioned, “Where is the left shouting against this? Where are the protests? Where are the speeches?” He described the silence of international organizations and political groups that claim to defend human rights as indicative of a double standard in addressing humanitarian crises.
These reactions come while the Taliban administration, in the penal code principles of its courts, has implicitly introduced the concept of slavery through the use of the word “slave” in several articles. Although this issue has sparked limited but concerning responses among human rights activists, there has been no broad and decisive reaction from the global community so far; a situation that once again raises serious questions about the world’s practical commitment to defending human rights in Afghanistan.
