Uzbekistan: Regional Security Depends on Stability in Afghanistan

An advisor to the President of Uzbekistan has warned that stability in Afghanistan plays a key role in the security of Central Asia and the wider region. He emphasized that any expansion of extremism could have direct security consequences.
Abdulaziz Kamalov stated that developments in the Middle East, particularly the movement and influence of extremist groups, pose a serious threat to countries in the region, with Afghanistan being especially vulnerable to these trends.
According to Kamalov, shared security concerns have led Tashkent to support international peace initiatives, including those backed by the United States.
The Uzbek official stressed that Afghanistan’s security is inextricably linked to regional stability, a reality that highlights the Taliban administration’s responsibility to ensure nationwide security, prevent the activities of extremist groups, and respond to regional concerns.
