Amnesty International Condemns Trump’s Peace Panel as Violation of International Law

Amnesty International has described the establishment of a peace panel by Donald Trump, the President of the United States, as a blatant disregard for international law and human rights. The organization warned that such a decision threatens global efforts to strengthen international justice.
On Thursday, Donald Trump announced the formation of a peace panel comprising several world leaders. In a statement, Amnesty International said this move could challenge the mechanisms of the United Nations, international justice institutions, and globally accepted norms.
The statement further noted that establishing such a panel is “a slap in the face to decades of efforts to strengthen global order and governance through adherence to shared values and creating greater equality among member countries.”
Trump has invited dozens of world leaders to join this panel, but several U.S. allies have declined participation. While some regional Middle Eastern powers such as Turkey, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, along with countries like Indonesia, have joined the panel, major global powers and Western allies of the U.S. have approached it with caution.
Russia has stated that it is considering the invitation to join the panel. Vladimir Putin said Moscow might allocate one billion dollars of its frozen assets in the United States to the Gaza peace panel.
In contrast, France has officially refused to join the panel, and the United Kingdom has stated it currently has no intention to become a member. China has yet to announce a clear stance on the matter.
