EU Allocates €126 Million in Humanitarian Aid to Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iran for 2026

The European Commission has announced the allocation of €126 million in humanitarian aid for Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iran for the year 2026. The assistance aims to address urgent humanitarian needs in these three countries.

On Wednesday, January 21, the Commission stated that this financial package is part of the European Union’s total €1.9 billion aid commitment to tackle global crises. According to the Commission, approximately 239 million people worldwide require humanitarian assistance.

Hajer Labbieb, European Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness, and Crisis Management, presented this financial commitment at the World Economic Forum in Davos. She called for additional funding from the private sector and innovative solutions to complement public budgets.

Labbieb emphasized that the global humanitarian system is under unprecedented pressure, and relying solely on public funding cannot meet the scale of current crises.

Meanwhile, the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has projected that the number of displaced people will exceed 136 million by the end of this year, a trend that further strains aid resources.

At the same time, the United Nations has requested a budget of around $1.7 billion to respond to Afghanistan’s humanitarian needs in 2026, highlighting the magnitude of the crisis in the country.
