Israeli Expert Reveals Tel Aviv and UAE Collaboration in Somaliland to Expand Influence

An Israeli expert has unveiled coordination between Tel Aviv and the United Arab Emirates regarding the issue of Somaliland, stating that this cooperation aims to expand influence in the region.

Eyal Zisser, Vice President of Tel Aviv University, told the Arabic media outlet ‘Arabi21’ that Abu Dhabi is seeking to strengthen its presence and influence in Somaliland and is prepared to invest significant financial resources to achieve this goal. According to him, this process is being advanced in coordination with Israel.

Zisser further added that the United States is also pursuing the establishment of a new base in the region; an action which, he said, is framed within Washington’s geopolitical competition and security concerns in the African continent.

The Israeli expert, referring to Somaliland’s geographical position, noted that many Israeli citizens have never even heard the name of the area, but from Tel Aviv’s perspective, Somaliland holds strategic importance due to its location at the entrance to the Red Sea and proximity to sensitive shipping routes.

Somaliland is a separatist region in northern Somalia that has not yet been recognized by any member country of the United Nations. Nevertheless, Israel previously took a controversial step by recognizing the region, an action which observers have described as a violation of accepted principles of international law.
