Medvedev Condemns US Military Operation in Venezuela, Claims Maduro Kidnapped

Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council, reacted to what he described as a “US military operation in Venezuela,” stating that the incident highlights the necessity for every country to maximize its military capabilities for self-defense. He claimed that during this operation, Nicolás Maduro, the President of Venezuela, and his wife were kidnapped.

Citing Russian media, Medvedev expressed his belief that the only real guarantee for a country’s secure protection is to possess a strong deterrent capability. He added that the events in Caracas prove that countries must maintain high-level armed forces and prevent influential individuals from altering the constitutional order.

The Russian official further said that, from his perspective, what happened in Venezuela is a clear example of the so-called “peacekeeping” claim by the United States. According to Medvedev, the military operation took place in a country that posed no direct threat to the US.

In another part of his remarks, Medvedev sarcastically referred to Donald Trump, the current US president, suggesting that Washington would be better off focusing its energy elsewhere. He also mockingly described the US actions in Venezuela as “another step toward winning the Nobel Peace Prize.”
