Taliban Spokesperson Says West Has Not Abandoned War Policies

Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesperson for the Taliban administration, told Tolo News that Western countries have yet to officially recognize the Taliban government due to what he called their “past war-centric policies,” and that time is needed to reach normal diplomatic relations.
Mujahid claimed that over the past twenty years, Western countries have conducted negative propaganda against the Taliban, which has contributed to a negative perception. According to him, changing this approach and achieving normal engagement requires a fundamental revision of previous Western policies.
The Taliban spokesman also referred to recent tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan, stating that the Taliban have no issues with the Pakistani government and emphasize resolving disputes through dialogue. He added that continuing these tensions benefits no country.
In another part of the interview, Mujahid discussed the Taliban’s governance approach, saying the administration considers itself responsible for ensuring the security and welfare of the people in this world and the hereafter. This stance contrasts with serious criticisms from opponents regarding the Taliban’s record on civil rights, individual freedoms, and political participation.
He concluded by expressing hope that the existing challenges across various fields will be resolved in the coming year—remarks that have been met with widespread skepticism and criticism among the country’s population amid ongoing political, economic, and social crises.
