Population Growth in Occupied Territories Hits Record Low, Israeli Media Reports

Israeli media outlets report an unprecedented decline in population growth within the occupied territories this year. According to research institutions, this situation is the result of increased reverse migration and the departure of residents from the area.

The Jerusalem Post, citing findings from the Taub Center for Social Policy Studies, reported that since the 1950s, a significant drop in average population growth in the occupied territories has been rare. However, for the first time in the history of the regime, population growth in the current year has reached its lowest level.

According to this report, the population growth rate, which had consistently been above 1.5% in previous years, fell below 1% in 2025, with only about 100,000 people added to the region’s population.

The Taub Center emphasized that increasing reverse migration has caused the number of individuals leaving the occupied territories to surpass the number of incoming migrants. Experts attribute this trend mainly to unfavorable economic conditions, labor market challenges, and political developments.

Meanwhile, the spread of insecurity following resistance forces’ operations and the negative consequences of the two-year war against Gaza have also been highlighted as significant factors intensifying the flight of Israeli residents from the occupied territories. This issue has cast uncertainty over the demographic future of the region.
