Tajik Security Officials Hold Meeting to Strengthen Afghan Border Security Amid Rising Attacks

Tajik security officials have convened a meeting to explore ways to reinforce the country’s borders with Afghanistan following an increase in attacks originating from Afghan territory and growing concerns over border insecurity. The discussions focused on security threats and drug trafficking.
According to a report by Asia-Plus, the meeting took place on Saturday, December 26, between Mir Seydzadeh, Director of the Safety and Chemical Department, and Muradali Rajabzadeh, Commander of the Border Forces of Tajikistan’s National Security Committee. Both parties reviewed the current situation at the borders and the necessity to boost the preparedness of border forces.
The report states that the surge in attacks from Afghan soil and the ongoing drug trafficking into Tajikistan were the main reasons for calling this meeting—a matter that highlights neighboring countries’ renewed concerns over the Taliban administration’s inability to control cross-border threats.
The talks primarily centered on the training and skill enhancement of border personnel specializing in radiation, chemical, and biological defense. Officials discussed employing modern methods for detecting, identifying, and providing initial responses to threats and incidents related to illegal drug trafficking.
Additionally, the meeting emphasized the use of modern and intelligent tools to detect threats along the border, reflecting how security concerns stemming from Afghanistan’s situation continue to cast a shadow over regional security dynamics.
