Former Afghan Justice Minister Denies Allegations of Interference in 2010 Parliamentary Elections

Fazl Ahmad Manawi, former Justice Minister of Afghanistan during the republican era, has categorically denied allegations of his and Marshal Mohammad Qasim Fahim’s interference in the results of the 2010 parliamentary elections, calling them unfounded.

He pointed to the structure of the Independent Election Commission at that time, stating that the commission consisted of seven members from various ethnic groups across the country, and no decision was made without the majority vote of its members. According to him, this structure prevented individual or group interference in the election results, and neither he nor his colleagues played any role in the vote counting or announcement of results.

Mr. Manawi further described Marshal Mohammad Qasim Fahim as a national and visionary figure, adding that attributing such accusations to him is a clear injustice toward one of the most influential figures in contemporary Afghan history.

The former Justice Minister also emphasized that during his tenure, no official or leadership was able to impose anything against his beliefs and conscience. He called on the individual or individuals who made these statements to formally apologize, warning that otherwise their moral and social credibility will be questioned.

Fazl Ahmad Manawi concluded by noting that at an appropriate time, he would independently and comprehensively share full and documented details of the 2010 parliamentary election process with the public.
