Iran Announces Plans to Simplify Visa Process for Afghan Citizens

Iran has announced efforts to simplify visa procedures for Afghan citizens during a meeting between Iran’s Deputy Ambassador and the Governor of Herat. Officials from both sides emphasized expanding bilateral relations, addressing migrant challenges, and facilitating trade cooperation.

According to a statement from the Herat provincial government, Seyed Hossein Mortazavi, Iran’s Deputy Ambassador, met with Sheikh Mawlavi Islamjar. The meeting focused on issues related to migrants’ conditions, the development of bilateral ties, and trade cooperation between the two countries.

Mortazavi underlined Iran’s commitment to strengthening relations with Afghanistan and stated that simplifying and streamlining the visa issuance process for Afghan citizens is a priority for Iranian diplomatic missions.

The Governor of Herat highlighted the importance of addressing migrants’ problems and called for timely measures by relevant Iranian authorities to facilitate Afghan citizens’ visas. He noted that practical cooperation in this area could reduce existing pressures.

Referring to the Taliban administration’s stance, the governor added that they seek strong and stable relations with Iran. He described easing trade exchanges, transit, and addressing citizen issues of both countries as constructive actions beneficial to both sides.

Meanwhile, Alireza Marhamati, Iran’s Consul General in Herat, stated that the case concerning the deaths of several migrants at the Iran border has been handed over to the country’s judicial and legal authorities. A thorough investigation of the documents and circumstances surrounding the incident will be conducted.
